#justfinnishthings

This is gonna be a long post, forgive me.

I've been so unbelievably homesick lately that I can't even. It doesn't help that I've had a headache the past three days, stressing for schoolwork and for going back home and ofc it's that time of the month. I took a pill for the headache, did some school stuff and bought some chocolate, so those things are covered, but there's not much I can do to homesickness. And add to that it's the independence day of Funland.

I miss home. I miss toilet doors that opens outside. I miss bus fares that are the same for any distance inside a certain region. I miss people automatically giving space to each other while walking on the street. I miss tap water that tastes good. I miss my own university and the level of education there. I miss familiar currency and familiar products at the store so I could do some kind of comparison without it taking forever. I miss knowing that I can speak my mind and knowing I have the words and the ability to explain what I mean without having to rush and leave things half way (I'm so much more witty in my native language). I miss knowing what's socially acceptable. But most of all I miss my friends and family. I miss being Finnish and not having to justify it to anyone.

It comes in waves and tonight I'm drowning. Tomorrow I'll probably be fine again and thinking that I don't ever want to go back home. So many things are good here and I love the freedom and anonymity that speaking a foreign language gives me. Though I easily swear in situations it's frowned upon, a thing that I would not do in Finnish. I'm having fun here and I love my new friends, they give me different kind of energy that I never thought I could have. I think I have already changed, but for the good and I'm somewhat scared to go back home. What if I fall back to my old ways? What if I don't fit in anymore? As if I ever fit in...

I've always been a bit more patriotic than the average friend of mine but being in a foreign country makes me appreciate my homeland in a very profound way. Clean water and clean air are amazing things. Forests and lakes. Our body-image. The bittersweet melancholy which gives space for happiness too. Free education, health care, dental. Electronic and technological advantages. The history we have. Ecological thinking. Equality and the sexual revolution. Honesty and politeness. The fact that we have a metal cover of so many songs and we have a metal band just for kids. There are so many things wrong in Finland but there are so many things right that it makes it the best country in the world.

I'm listening to Finnish songs and being all teary-eyed. We have a national anthem "Maamme -laulu" (our land's song) but we also had a great composer once, you might have heard of him, called Jean Sibelius who wrote the song Finlandia hymn. It was never meant to be sang but lyrics were made for it almost immediately and they're absolutely beautiful. This is that song performed by a choir and it was an ad for the presidential elections some time back.

The lyrics are touching, the song states that the day of Finland has finally arrived and the terror of the night has been driven away. It also says that Finland should hold its head high because it has shown the world that it has banished slavery and has not bend under oppression. Your morning has begun, Finland.

The times are tough in Finland like they are everywhere. Money is scarce and funding from cultural, educational and health care section are being pulled. There are a lot of worries about human rights, and immigrants and refugees. The discourse is loud - luckily. For both for and against, but at least we are talking about it. The best statement so far was made recently by a store chain with their ad:

The song is a classic and the lyrics gets new meanings with this ad and the people singing it. The lyrics goes something along these lines: He happened to be born innocent / to this northern and cold land / where already the ancestors drunk - of course / beat up their wives and children if they could catch them / the son wanted to escape from the traditional fate / "I won't ever buy an axe and I will never drink booze / or otherwise I will loose the house" / it drives a man in desperation / when the frost harvests the crops / from the middle of cold soil silently / a cold eye is staring / when the axe rises / in the middle of the mounds, from soil of the ground / proudly the fathers are watching their sons / unemployment, alcohol, an axe and the family / snow blanket, police and the last mistake... And so on. It's a very depressing song, but putting in this context it shows us that we're not different from the immigrants and the colour of your skin doesn't determinate that you can't have the same roots as I do.

Finland is traditionally seen as a white and blue country. White as snow, blue from the thousand lakes (or the coldness which makes us change colour from the captains of chalk ships to very unhealthy blueberries). The world is changing and so is Finland with it. I can only imagine the hardships those people go through who moves to Finland and I see it better every day now that I'm far away struggling myself with unfamiliar surroundings. Though I blend in in every Western country for being brown-haired and green-eyed, so one can't tell just by looking at me that I'm necessarily foreign. I've encountered enough cat-calling for being able to imagine what racism could be like, but I imagine it to be something much worse.

Today there's much more colour in Finland and that should be seen as a good thing. Learning about different cultures doesn't only teach us about the world, but it also makes us learn more about ourselves. Not looking beyond our own navel makes us narrow-minded in so many levels and thinking that our ways are the best makes us stand still. You are allowed to pick and choose the best for you and you are allowed to be yourself whatever that might be. It's not okay to break the law or not try living with the rules of the community, but as a person you should be what you are. It's hypocritical of us Finns to judge others when we consider being different a good thing. I know we bow to the Western culture and we want to be known and recognised but we still embrace our difference. Finnish culture wouldn't give up saunas even if rest of the world would criticise it. So why is it so hard to let others be what they want? Why do we think we're so superior and at the same time we have a huge inferiority complex.

Being away from home is hard. Many of my friends don't realise how much I would appreciate hearing from them, talking to them in my mother tongue and just overall being surrounded by familiar things even if it's through interwebs. I find solace in chatting with a friend who lives in a neighbouring country because I imagine he has gone through similar things as I have. He probably hasn't, but I like to relate even if it's just figure of my imagination. And he is one of the few people who pokes me from time to time asking me how it's going. I appreciate that. Though chatting with him is a bit dangerous - this is a person I've mentioned in the blog few times before and I would tell you guys the whole story if I didn't know he occasionally reads this. And on the note of men, I'd like to give an update on what's going on. But first a song to ease the transition.

I am tired of using technology and I need you right in front of me. Which means I'm quite tired of online dating. I miss feeling the rising tension of meeting your crush and I think online dating makes things too mechanical. I did have quite good experience just now: few so romantic dates that they are in my top5 along with the text message saying "the streets are flooding, can I call you?" and kissing at the airport right after meeting.

One of the best parts of him is that he has no idea how good looking he is. He told me that he has made some drastic changes in his life and he doesn't see how much good they've done for him. The worst part is that he has no space in his life and he doesn't realise how much that can affect another person. There's also cultural differences, me thinks, because as a Finn I appreciate punctuality a lot. I can be flexible but if you expect me to be that elastic outside the bedroom, it's not fun anymore.

I think there's a lot of wisdom in being friends first and dating later. Then you already know you're compatible and you know most of the things the other person does. With online or blind dating the connotation is always romantic or at least sexual first. There's some kind of touching of the skins before you really know the other person and then people rather do that than talk.

All the best -guy said the same thing as Dragonborn, and I think they're right. They both blamed me for attacking or pointing out the flaws in them. My friends have always told me I'm too judgemental and I guess that hasn't changed. I will think about this a lot and hopefully I'm able to change my ways because I don't want to be the person who keeps nagging. I think it has something to do with this:

But it's not just about romance. It's about everything. When I see greatness, I'm many times disappointed that the person doesn't see it himself and hasn't reached it yet. Perhaps pointing out the things would help them to realise those things and then help to reach them. It doesn't work like that, I know, and I have to stop doing that. This is why we need to date people that are compatible. Someone who knows you, knows what you mean when you do things, or say things, knows your tone of voice, knows the way you are and the way you act. Dating people blindly is tiresome; getting to know new people again and again in hopes that they will fulfil your hopes and dreams is exhausting.

At least I'm learning things about myself everyday. Both living abroad and dating are good ways to know more of who you are. I truly thank the people and the world for the feedback. What doesn't kill me, makes me stronger . After few weeks when I go back home, I will be hard as a rock.

One more (Finnish!) song for the occasion. The lyrics say that you're finally starting to realise that you don't need permissions from anyone, that you're too beautiful to be ashamed and there's nothing to lose, so just let go, be beautiful, indecent and happy. That's truly what a strong independent Finnish woman should be.

My life is a parody

Lately I've been totally focusing on work and school. Totally. Ahem.

So what I've really been doing is writing WoW parodies of famous songs. It seems like I'm most of the times inspired to write something and since my single life has ended and there's not much to tell about me in the blog (without invading someone else privacy too), I've been focusing my writing elsewhere. I've been actually playing a lot more lately. Not just logging on and chatting but really playing. That's what I get from dating another WoW player.

Maybe next time I'll post my parody lyrics for you, but this time I thought I would spend this space on linking you the best parodies there are. In no particular order, here we go.

Ember Isolte - Ninja raiders (original "Single ladies")

I think Ember Isolte is very good and I enjoy listening to her songs. Music to my ears...

Sharm - Alexstrasza (original "Alejandro")

I don't really like Sharm since she uses so much voice alteration in her songs but this is so impressive lorewise that it can't be dismissed.

Chorister - You give PUGS a bad name (original "You give love a bad name")

Chorister (Darkpippi) has an awesome raspy voice and he does rock parodies. Awesomesauce.

Nyhm, Gigi, the Druidboyz - If You Could Be (is this their original? I don't recognise the song)

Gigi has a fun bubbly voice that can get irritating if listened for too long. But she sounds like she is smiling when she's singing and I think that's a good quality.

Silver Letomi - I'm OP (original "Happy")

Letomi has a great voice. But I don't like any other song from her. Weird, ain't it? But I guess this proves music needs a bit more heart than just beautiful voice.

Quelyth - A different love song (original "Lean back")

I like this one because it has so much attitude and girl power.

There are lots of good other parodies too. Or at least singers, like TamaLala, Kavo and Seiren. But it's not that often witty lyrics meet a good singer. Meaning: there are plenty of funny songs out there that sounds bad but are worth the listen because of the wordplay. Maybe one day I'll do one of my own and then you can trash that.

But until then, here is my favourite and my good morning song.

Lodroth - Manypenny (original the Sponge Bob theme song)

I know you

If nothing else good came out of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, the soundtrack is pretty good. I already linked one of the songs in my Valentine's day extravaganza without even noticing it was from the movie. I went to see the movie with Juju the other day (we're crazy like that, last time we couldn't decide what to see and ended up watching Prince of Persia - and liking it). I can't say the movie was good, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. It was mostly porn without genitalia so could've been worse.

Most of the songs in the soundtrack are melancholic. I find it strange that it hits me this well even though I'm not sorrowful. Listening to the song I linked above, I felt a strong feeling of wanting to make someone listen to it. That I wanted to say all that to someone. Until I realised I wanted to say it to myself. I have been patient but slowly I'm losing fate. Don't complicate it, don't let the past dictate.

I've never really been one of those people who thinks too much when it comes to jumping to opportunities. Lately I've been wondering if my emotional baggage has grown so big over the years that I can't let go anymore. The good thing is that whatever my thoughts are telling me, I still operate with full intentions like before. Jumping from a cliff head first seems to be implemented in me so strongly that it doesn't just randomly disappear. Right now I'm glad of that because I think I would've missed an opportunity. I have no idea where this leads yet but I sure as hell intent to find out. "All adventures in life start by showing up."

I wonder if other people get that feeling of being disconnected from the outer world, like you see from inside your skull... This might be the fever talking again. I don't know why am I sick yet again, but I think it has something to do with having a huge stress ball of life and when that loosened up a bit, of course I got sick.

This is my 93th post. I've been thinking of stopping when I hit round numbers. Because I've been writing this many times like a diary, I feel like things that might be better to stay inside my head are now out in the open for everyone to see. Before someone takes advantage of that it might be better to quit while ahead. But this is just a thought again, and since I'm the whimsical me, never know what's going to happen next. Also, I'm running out of inspirational quotes, which is weird because I have a whole wall of them pinned in Pinterest. If you need something thoughtful, you can find that wall under my wonderful alias Luci McPennyloo.

Non-hit wonder

Okay fine. I admit it. I live inside my head, in my thoughts. Mostly. Sometimes it's good to come out of there, but many times it's painful to rip myself out of my comfort zone that is my little world. I almost slammed a door to this guys face few weeks ago, shared some words with him and then on my way home from school I couldn't remember how he looked like anymore. I can have days without leaving the inner world of my own head and I might not be dragged out of there even if I'm in the presence of other people.

I'm probably going to be even more turned inside this spring and I'm afraid what will it do to the blog. If I don't have social porn to share (as in me and my super-interesting dating life), what will I write about? I know some of you won't mind more WoW -stories (Juju and I totally killed in BG's today, it was awesome!). There might be few people from the university reading so I could post stories about what I've learnt or what is wrong with our school system (the school where points are made up and the grades don't matter). I could spam posts with more inspirational quotes or jokes from the deep depths of interweb (why is it called a beauty sleep when I wake up looking like a troll?).

I don't know yet what the future posts will be but this time I thought I would entertain you with some music. I finally caught up with the present times and started using Spotify. I found interesting lists of one-hit-wonders and I'm gonna share the best bits I've found with you guys. Through my loyal friend, YouTube, ofc. Weirdly these songs fit well with my current mood.

Amazing music vids, believe you me.

This next one actually has a good video, I suggest to watch it.

This song is relevant in more than one way. I didn't want to link the official video, because it was too humorist and ruins the song. Have you noticed how many songs there are about the one last/only night?

Last but not least. Something that probably made Cher and Whitney Houston jealous. And look at her clothes... damn. I want what she's wearing.

I don't know if the last song is so relevant but it does make me feel better. I haven't lost love, I didn't get a chance for it. Though I don't know if I ever truly loved. Time fades the memories. And I don't think I've ever been loved, like truly, madly, deeply loved, either. One-sided love feels different, I assume, than both-sided love. I would "gladly" mourn if I had lost something true, but it's just "towards new disappointments" again and again. I don't know if I can stop hoping, but being constantly on a state of wishing and dreaming is exhausting, and I'd rather not keep doing that anymore. If something comes, then something comes. I will probably be hesitant to accept and/or believe it after all these years of having hopes and dreams not fulfilled. How can I expect anyone to love me when I'm not open to love someone myself? Sometimes I wonder if my past relationships have failed because I haven't really been capable of letting go of control. I should stop expecting of others and enjoy my own feelings. All that said, one day I will love again. And I will be loved back.

What a strange ride...

I'm such a geek that I sometimes just have to laugh at myself. I did something I thought I never would. I asked a guy out. In a very geeky way and I'm rather ashamed of myself. No wonder he said no... No matter how much being turned down bums me out, I can't be but a bit proud of myself. I finally did it! Maybe next time I'll do it in person though :D

2014 is slowly fading away and 2015 is smashing through the window in to the room. And what a strange year is has been. A whole year single, who would've thought! I've been so happy this year. The most content for my life I've ever been. It hasn't been perfect, obviously, but the dark moments have been rare and I've been surrounded by wonderful people.

I thought I would go through this year through the songs I've been listening to most.

This song, Polarkreis' Allein Alene is a mix of languages and was linked to me my then new friend. We just celebrated our one year anniversary the other day and I can't emphasise enough how important he has been to me this year. We've had many giggles together but we've also cried together. There's not much I can't tell him. It's weird to call someone almost a decade younger one of your utmost bestest friends but he really is that to me. And before you ask, yes, we know through WoW.

I've come in terms with my nerdiness. Or geekiness. I don't know which I am. I'm not a machine geek, nor an anime nerd, but I'm definitely not.. an unnerd. I'm a lot more than that and sometimes I'm afraid people forget the other things I am but in the end I don't think about it too much. It does eat a bit my inner smexeyness, but then again... haven't met a nerd who hadn't liked me just the way I am. This song also made me realise that I'm not so serious as I've always thought. There's a lot of laughter in me towards very silly things and it usually gets out with fellow geeks. I think I was way too serious when I was around twenty and I'm quite happy to have gotten some life in me.

This is something I never get over. As much as I've grown in the past year and really got to know myself, I still have a constant fear of being misunderstood. In my youth it was that people wouldn't understand my jokes or what I'm trying to say or overall who I am or how I am. Now it has toned down, but it's still in the back of my mind. That's why I like the virtual connection more than being face-to-face. It's easier to let the inner voice be heard when it's not mixed with the physical awkwardness that sometimes so annoyingly takes over. It's also a problem when communicating in other languages; I can be quite witty in Finnish and I have to try really hard to reach the same levels in English.

What I've also realised is that I'm not like other girls. I speak more openly about my sexuality and other things. I don't grow old like other people around me. I don't look my age, I don't act my age, I don't live like I should at my age, I don't like or want the same things. I'm not the jealous kind, I'm overly patient with the people I love, sometimes I think I love differently too. I don't like to cuddle. I don't mind foul language. There are so many things. When I was a teenager I was so sure that all the people are so different from me. Then I learnt they are all the same, we are all the same. And now, lately, I've started to feel like a stranger again. I wonder if it was a short moment in time and age that I was like the rest and now it has passed. Will I ever reach that point again?

The feeling that has gotten the better of me more than once this year has been the "why can't you see we would be good together?". I like you, but you like somebody else. And you like me, but I like somebody else. And it's so frustrating to be interested in someone and then someone and then someone and they are never the one. Three dates is the longest I've seen someone because they just haven't been the one I'm looking for. And only one of them has been quite mutual agreement that together we wouldn't be complete. I get sad when I look at that side of my year. It makes me feel old. It makes me feel so goddamn lonely. But as long as it doesn't make me desperate, I will survive the waves of frustration. Sometimes I just feel like I was promised more than I got.

This might sound weird but in the past year my self confidence has grown a lot. For example I've been so ashamed of my booty. "I mean, her butt, is just so big. I can't believe it's just so round, it's like, out there, I mean - gross." It required few compliments and some pics from good angles but I made it there: to the other side of self shame. I'm never gonna be skinny and I would probably get cut half in the middle if I was anyways. It's not just about acceptance for being what you are and not trying to forcefully change it, it's also liking your own body. As long as I'm not obese, why not like what I wear when I party with Adam and Eve.

I haven't lost my metal side. It has been hiding, but it's still there. This is not a happy song, but damn that it has a good beat! I noticed I'm not young anymore when one day I was home moshing and I couldn't move my head the next day. It was totally worth it though! I cannot help but move to music especially when it has such a beat. I bought a pair of leather pants this year and I've started to wear more of clothes that I think looks good but others might think looks a bit weird. I've felt I've went back to my roots this year but without overdoing it. I'm happy that I've found other things I like in life but it has also been nice to notice there are somethings that doesn't change in me. There's always gonna be a hint of darkness, hint of anger, hint of sadness and hint of metal in me. Always.

Overall this has been a good year. The biggest part of the goodness is because of the guild and the guildies. I've had wonderful trips across Europe and I've met some of those wonderful people in real life. Still have many to meet but they've still been there for me without being physically present. Maybe the year to come will give me opportunities to meet them and maybe even more awesome people. I have felt myself useful when I could've been there for others but I've also feel I've failed couple of times. I will learn from those mistakes and in the years to come try to make up for them. It's been a good road I've been on and I think I should continue this path. Maybe study a little more and do the dishes more often but otherwise I will keep the course and full speed ahead! I've felt so loved, not by a significant other but by friends and family. If I had true love in my life, my glass full off luck and happiness would overflow.

Next year I would like to dance more, sing more, love more, laugh more, travel more, work harder, let go off unnecessary pain, play more with my friends, make snow angels and sit by the midsummer night  bonfire and maybe hire a professional lotioner to help me not to turn into a freaking raisin every goddamn winter.

I would like to ask for more courage to be myself, to trust myself more, to have more strength. I would like to gain more wisdom, more understanding and more appreciation to little things. I would like to listen to more good songs, listen to birds sing, listen to people smile. I would like to give no more bs and receive no more bs. And I wish all of this to everyone.

Only couple of dozen hours left of this year. Oh boy how many dickies I've seen...

Guys, if you didn't last year when the countdown started, this year just kiss the girl. Sha la la la.

(btw. it's 5am so if this post didn't make any sense, it's totally not my fault)

A road to lyrics

Note to self: three shifts of work, three days of school and bunch of other duties every week doesn't go well for a lazybutt like me. The first half of the semester is coming to an end so hopefully soon I'll be able to think more of inner thoughts and less of official thoughts.

I've carried on with my quest to find out why I like lyrics so much. I think I can explain it with the way Finns make music. When it comes to melody, Finnish songs can be a bit boring. The key in good Finnish songs are in the lyrics mostly and I think that might explain why karaoke is so popular here. Let me demonstrate this by an example.

Neljä Ruusua (four roses) have a song called Tie Ajatuksiin (a path to thoughts). It's not much if you just listen to it and don't understand what is being said. This is my best effort on translating the lyrics.

"I want to lick you clean from the dents of life
take you by the hand and take you with me
I want to forgive you all your sins
and lead you to the direction towards peace of mind

Sometimes the power (energy) gets cut off or one has too much of it
but will can lift a tightrope dancer in the air

In my eyes the world seems foggy and beautiful
if future fullfills my dreams
I'll stay and rest, and never want to be reborn again

I want to take you on a voyage to my thoughts
and teach you what I've realised
I want to open your eyes, make you see with fresh gaze
and smother the despair

Sometimes the power gets cut off or one has too much of it
but will can lift a tightrope dancer in the air

In my eyes the world seems foggy and beautiful
if future fullfills my dreams
I'll stay and rest, and never want to be reborn again

A path to thoughts, come with me

A path to thoughts, come with me"

Most of the great Finnish songs have a certain nickcavean flair to it. And they are usually melancholic. Songs about walking in fathers shoes and killing the family, suicide, darkness, snow, despair, losing loved-ones and drinking. Mostly drinking.

They are also about how tied we are to our ancestors, they point out problems and shows us that singing about them might not make them go away, but it can make us feel better. Lyrics have always been the way for me to feel I belong; that there is someone else in the universe feeling as I do and that I'm not alone.

Lyrics can encourage or help carry a burden. Lyrics can say the stuff you would like to, but you just can't or you don't have the words. They say so much more of human communication is done without words but I don't think that just makes the words any less valuable. What makes humans special compared to any other animals is that we talk, we sing and we dance (and we bury our loved-ones). Lyrics are as essential as the rhythm or the melody. What's so great about music is that it combines the essence of being a human. It includes the talking (words, lyrics), the singing (melody) and the dancing (rhythm). A world without music would be a grim place and I'm happy I'm not in one.

The price of love

A guildie knows how much lyrics means to me in music so he suggested I try this band:

I don't usually like this kind of rock but my friend was right about the lyrics, they are powerful. So lately I've been thinking what's the price of love.

In the guild we have this thing we sometimes use caps and spam lyrics as if we were singing them. Our little cuddlesnuggle Slenbear sometimes sings asking if we believe there's life after love. I always answer no. If there's something after it, it wasn't love to begin with. I believe love to be eternal and if it stops, it wasn't love. If my theory is true, I've never been in love.

But I think I've been close. I've seen glimpses of love and I know I want it. Badly. So what do I need to pay to get it? What's the price of love?

Do I need to make a fool out of myself? That's just fine, I feel like the jester already.
Does it require actual money? That's okay with me, I'm ready to work for it.
Does it need to be paid in time? I've got plenty of time. Just show me who to waste it on.
Do I need to throw myself in the winds of emotion? I'm up for that, who wants to stay numb anyways.
Am I not ready for it? What kind of sacrifices is there to make to become ready for love?

What do you want from me, love?

If it comes with pain, I'm ready. Pain I know, I'm used to that. If it comes with the shades of darkness, I've been there before. I know the way out. Right now I can't think of anything I wouldn't do for love (except that one thing, of course).

I wont give myself to anyone, but I can give myself to love. I mean that I want to stay as my own person, but I would be fool - for love.

I feel like most of the things I want in life can be achieved alone. But love is something I can't magically make happen. And we all know there's no hurrying love. Maybe the one I'm supposed to be in love with is not ready and I need to wait. In the meanwhile I can just browse Imgur and join the choir of loneliness. Seriously, I bet one of the most used comment on that site is "This made me realise how lonely I am". If you don't believe me, check out the comments on this one: http://imgur.com/gallery/y5OQE.

What do you think, what's the price of love?

Sounds of music

There's a reason why I listen to lyrics and I'll list them here for you. Many of these songs have been so important that I don't think I would've survived some points in my life without them.

"Good things might come to those who wait
Not to those who wait too late"

(Bill Withers - Just the two of us)

"You saved the best for last and now it's too late"
(Sonata Arctica - Good enough is good enough)

"The carousel is spinning fast
better enjoy while it lasts
Every moment is like gold
youll remember when youre old
And the meaning of this life
is to live and is to die
Make the best out of your dreams
they're the world where you are free
All the sorrow and the pain
will be washed away by rain
An eternal joy will come
it can be found by everyone
Though the end is drawing near
Im not feeling any fear
I have found the truth inside
after all the tears I've cried"

(Stratovarius - Season of change)

"Fly without sorrow
In my dreams we meet again
For you I live, I would die for you
You'll stay deep inside in my heart"

(Entwine - Closer my love)

"So when the hell will I know.
How much further do I have to go?
And how much longer 'til I finally know?
'Cause I'm looking and I just can't see what's in front of me."

(Hoobastank - Crawling in the dark)

"I have carried this burden so long for you
that nothing but sorrow I feel
I have let myself believe
that nothing would hurt deeper than the truth"

(Ensiferum - Eternal Wait)

"I'm sick and tired of bein' sick and tired"
(Ozzy Osbourne - I just want you)

"Time after time
I am wasting my time
Living in a past where I was strong
But now I am gone
I leave no shadow when I'm alone
I'll stay forever in my dreams where you are near"

(Pain of Salvation - Second love)

"I am the Playwrite and you are my Crown,
make me cry for your love, like you´ve done many times,
so I know I can´t write these storylines without you, Lady pain,
make me strong, can´t we be together without them forever..."
(Sonata Arctica - The Misery)

"Is is too late to go in peace, I wonder how
how these things did start anyway
Maybe too late to find a way, when the
trail of grief is marked with memories"

(Hammerfall - I believe)

"Can you give as much as you can take?
Can you love as much as you can hate?"
(Samael - Together)

"And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It's a fine romance but it's left me so undone
It's always darkest before the dawn"

(Florence + The Machine - Shake it out)

"You've got one night only, one night only, that's all you have to spare
One night only, let's not pretend to care
One night only, one night only, come on big baby come on
One night only, we only have 'til dawn

In the mornin' this feelin' will be gone
It has no chance goin' on
Something so right has got no chance to live
So let's forget about chances, its one night I will give

One night only, one night only, you'll be the only one
One night only, turn your arms around,
One night only, one night only, there's nothin' more to say
One night only, words get in the way
One night only, one night only, one night only"

(Dreamgirls soundtrack - One night only)

"What I've felt, what I've known
Sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits for you
Or are you unforgiven too?"

(Metallica - Unforgiven II)

"And if you will, I will
Try to let it go.
And if you try, I'll try
Try to let it show us the way
'Cause love is here to stay
Just look me in the eye
This is do or die
And I will stay in love
'Till you say enough
There is no giving in
There is no giving up in love."

(Jewel - Again and again)

"You tried to hide yourself in a shell
You wanted heaven but you got hell
And then the darkness gained control over you
When everything turned into bitter blue
You went into the land of no return"

(Bad boys blue - Baby blue)

And I said "I've gotta be honest
I've been waiting for you all my life."
For so long I thought I was asylum bound,
But just seeing you makes me think twice.
And being with you here makes me sane,
I fear I'll go crazy if you leave my side.
You've got wits... you've got looks,
You've got passion but are you brave enough

to leave with me tonight?
(Dashboard Confessional - As lovers go)

"Baby, do you understand me now
Sometimes I feel a little mad
But don't you know that no one alive
Can always be an angel
When things go wrong I seem to be bad
But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood"

(The Animals - Misunderstood)

"But I crash in my mind
Whenever you are near
Getting deaf, dumb and blind
Just drowning in despair
I am lost in your flame
It's burning like the sun
And I call out your name
Whenever you are gone

Tomorrow
I'm telling all tomorrow
Or the day after tomorrow
I'm sure I'll tell you then"

(Saybia - The day after tomorrow)

"Sing what you can't say
Forget what you can't play
Hasten to drown into beautiful eyes
Walk within my poetry, this dying music
- My loveletter to nobody

Never sigh for better world
It's already composed, played and told
Every thought the music I write
Everything a wish for the night"

(Nightwish - Dead boys poem)

But not just in English:

(Zaz - Je veux)

"Ich hab' viel zu lang geblutet.
Schwer beladen mit der Schuld.
Weil Schlafen leichter ist als Kämpfen,
Hab' ich mich selbst eingelullt."

(Asp - Kokon)

"Uusi sukupolvi kuolemasta krapulainen
Katsoo miestä, naista, lasta, likaista
Tuokaa ruokaa ilman suuta kansa huutaa
Ja vaihtaa aterian aseisiin ja materiaan"
(Turmion Kätilöt - Liitto)

But not all are deep and meaningful:

"Cause it's the first of May, first of May
Outdoor fucking starts today
So bring your favorite lady
Or at least your favorite lay
Water's not cold baby dip in your big toe
Maybe I'll see you in flagrante delicto
Grass below you, sky above
Celebrate spring with a crazy little thing called fucking outside"

(Jonathan Coulton - First of May)

"Push me
And then just touch me
Till I can get my
Satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction, satisfaction

Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push,
Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push
Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push,
Push, push, push, push, push, push, push, push"

(Benny Benassi - Satisfaction)

Yea, don't listen to lyrics every time...

If you have lyrics in mind that are meaningful to you, please don't be shy to share them. I would love to read them and maybe even listen to those songs. In this blog you can post anonymously if you wish. Sharing is caring!

Happy, happy, happy..?

Yesterday I had a conversation with my friend about lyrics and he told me he only really listens to the lyrics of a happy song. He said there's no point on listening to the lyrics of a depressing song, it'll only kill your mood and what's the use of that. I don't think he quite understood when I said that it's comforting for me if I feel down to listen to something that gives me the feeling that there's someone who understands how I feel. And when I feel down it helps me to sing out loud what I feel. Melancholic music helps me cope with my problems more easily and that's how I deal with them. I wonder what would happen if I kept listening to upbeat, happy and funny songs all the time? Would I stop being sad from time to time or would all that crap inside me bottle up and explode one day?

Sometimes when I'm afraid my day is going to suck-balls-big-time™ I choose my morning song hoping that it can uplift my spirit and the whole day would be better. Lately I've been listening to this one for obvious reasons.

Or so I thought. It's not so obvious after all. This morning I realised this song is not about happiness. The guy isn't truly happy. At least when I'm truly happy, I never waste my thoughts on the things that has been dragging me down or could do that. This guy is just glad that he survived something down bringing, which is not bad either. But is it really happiness? I need to point out this again, because this sentence has been one of the most meaningful ones in my life.

I don't think the song is about happiness but about being finally comfortable enough to enjoy it. Why I see it like this probably is because in Finnish we have two words for "happy". You can either be happy as in happy about your life and had a lucky life so far (onnellinen). Or you can be momentarily happy as in delighted and pleased (iloinen). For my mornings to become good days, I need something that makes me feel like I'm fortunate to wake up on this beautiful day, something that makes me feel happy to be alive, maybe something that'll put some beat in me. I don't want my morning to start with quickly passing happiness that reminds me of all the obstacles I had to crawl over so far. I need something that is truly happy, like this one.

True happiness is not about the big things. You can enjoy overcoming obstacles but does they truly make you happy? Happiness is the moments when you notice how blue the sky is, how beautifully the birds sing, how someone is smiling to someone, it's the feeling of being clean, dry and warm. Happiness is a fluffy, cuddly feeling you have inside that will shine outside for the rest of the world to enjoy it too. Being content is something you have to enforce, true happiness doesn't care because you know that you can brighten someones day by just giving a genuine, honest, happy smile.

I googled "honest happy smile". Was not disappointed.

The eternal waiter

If you'd know me, you'd know that the music I listen to pretty much tells my mood. Music somehow makes my feelings stronger and helps me let out what ever is trying to bottle up inside me. If I play pop, I might feel like dancing and I feel joyful. If I play classical music, I need the calmness to do school work. And when I play metal...

I haven't listen to metal much in years, only occasionally. Only when I'm feeling blue. This morning I found myself changing from romantic pop songs (I like to sing them) to Sonata and friends.

Do you know the feeling of almost falling down a cliff and you keep looking for something to hold on to so you wont fall? If I look down, I can see the endless fall under me. Usually I know what has pushed me over the edge but this time I can't pinpoint it. I have a nice job that I don't hate. I leave for work happily. Summer vacation is starting and I'm not going to do much school stuff in the summer. I have friends around, I have family. No money problems though I'm not exactly rich either. I haven't done anything to regret miserably. I'm not lonely, there are few guys I know who would be happy to take me out. With that I mean there's potential for love.

And still I'm utter mess. I've lost the direction, the goal I work for. "If you want to live happy life, tie it to a goal not to people or object." The big picture is fading in front of me. I thought I knew what I wanted but I'm not so sure anymore. Are my standards beginning to lower? After my last breakup I aimed high and I was happy. The longer the wait is, the more confident I am that I'll find what I'm looking for.

I hate waiting. I wasn't build for waiting. And still I do it. I always wait and wait and wait, until I get fed up and do something about it. Now I don't know what to do anymore. I tried. Now I should just sit and wait. And I hate it. I feel like a sissy when I have to wait. And if I wanted a pussy in my life, I would just get a cat.

When I get to this point, I usually shut down. I don't feel like meeting anyone, talking to anyone, doing anything. I need to think and clear my mind, but too much thinking is dangerous. One can never know which way the coin will flip. Up or down, up or down, up or down... Endlessly, in my mind.

So I ask you, before you start flipping (coins in your mind), like I have:

What do you wait for? What are you ready to wait for?

How long are you going to wait until you're ready to give up?

What's the good moment to fight for it and stop the waiting game?

Is it better to fight or to give up?

Monsters Inc.

Today I woke up with a weird mix of two songs in my head.

The first one is kinda obvious because I'm going out of town tomorrow and always when I'm excited this song plays:

The other one was a bit trickier. I do love the movie where this is from. Seen it like a thousand time. Today I realised why I love it so much. Not just because of the monsters. And damn monsters are cool! But because of the love story. For all my life I've been looking for some kind of Beauty&Beast -scenario thinking I would find my monster one day. Why I idealise long-haired metal guys. But I've always wondered why I end up with the utter most normal guys. The geeks.

I thought it was because I'm somewhat geekish myself too. But today it hit me. I'm not looking for a monster in my life. I AM THE MONSTER in this story. I am the beast. The unique, weird creature that needs to be looked deep inside to find the goodness of the heart.

I wasn't looking for a monster all this time. I was looking for the Belle, the ordinary. The human. Someone who could teach me the ways of the mortals. Because I don't know how myself.

I'm the freaking monster. The vampire girl, the Hulk, the troll under the bridge. I'm the one with the spells and curses.

Why did it take me so many years to realise?

After this revelation, do I still keep looking for the monster on the surface and the commoner on reality? Do I fit better with another monster or is there an epic love story waiting for me somewhere?

I'm the problem.

Solve it.

Kids, this is a story of how I didn't meet your father

This time of the year my facebook feed is bursting with complaints of how irritating customers can be. This made me think about the time I used to work in customer service. Memories grow sweeter with time and I'm starting to forget the times I came home and burst in to tears. Or the times I didn't even get home and just cried at the work place.

But what I do remember was this one guy - or should I say a man - who came to the store very often and generally wanted to talk to me and kinda hoovered near my counter. He didn't speak very good Finnish and he had a little boy with him often. The boy was about 5 years old and I assumed he was that mans son. I never saw the guy with a woman so I also assumed he was a single dad.

It was pretty awkward to talk to him and then one time he brought me a pair of earrings. I tried to refuse the gift but he insisted. I think I left the pair under the counter somewhere because they were not to my liking and anyway it would've been too uncomfortable to wear them.

When I started looking back at that moment first I thought I might be little racist and that's why the guy creeped me out so much. But when I thought about it more the occasion reminded me of one episode in How I Met Your Mother where the characters were talking about how sweet gestures are creepy only if the receiver does not like the other one back.

After I broke up with my last long term boyfriend (has it been four/five months now?) more than one guy have contacted me. I'm not sure but from few of them I get the feeling that they have an agenda behind the getting-in-touch-thingey. I'm usually pretty frank myself so this hoovering around subjects gets on to my nerves. Sometimes I feel like yelling to most of the people with penises around me: WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!

Few of my schoolmates and I talked about getting the whole liking or going on a date stuff out of the way and how it might not be the best idea. We talked how it could ruin the anticipation and the wait can actually be thrilling. But I'm not a patient person and I don't appreciate games. At least not that kind of games :)

We are all afraid of rejection and ridicule. But I'm looking for a man who is not afraid of me, and how can a person not be afraid of a hothead like me if he is too afraid of asking me out and seeing me face to face just the two of us?

Which reminds me of this song I usually sing when there's just two people online in the guild.

Now it can play in your head too! You're welcome.

Top five songs

Good morning world!

You know what day it is? Maintenance.

To celebrate this boredom I thought you might like some WoW-related songs. I think these are ones that you should have heard already. And if not, it's a perfectly good time to educate yourself. If you think I missed something, please be free and post a reply, I would love to get to know to more songs like these.

Here we go.

5. Warrior vs. paladin: the musical.

Quite witty video from an already excisting song.

4. Don't make me get my main.

Video is pretty boring (although I like the singing gnomes) but the song itself sounds pretty nice. Who doesn't like rusty and manly voice. *ladyboner*

3. First of May

This is NSFW but I guess that's why I like it. If you are ever feeling bit down, open this video and it's just impossible to keep pouting to the world.

2. I play WoW

This probably should be number one because it's so nice and polished. And witty. Also funny. So thanks Jace Hall for this awesome song and video.

1. Welcome to the Deadmines

This is the first song I even heard relating to WoW. I don't think I even knew what Deadmines was back then, I had played so little time. This could be little more polished, but it will always remain my favorite. Thanks Glar for showing it to me!

So there you have it :) I've been scheming up for a longer post but I think it's still so rare it needs to cook until next weeks maintenance. Play safely!

From an open window, you can hear music

The song of today is this:

It plays in my head and I do feel a little mad. Never before in my adult life has my window been so wide open for so long, and getting used to single life is becoming a bit of a pickle. I'm not saying I don't enjoy every moment of it, but it raises many emotions.

The good thing about being so messed up, as I am currently, is that I find new songs to enjoy. I thought I was so settled in my ways I could only like heavy/metal or the oldies but goldies. Now I have found myself expanding my musical range. I always thought peoples tastes changes because of age, but I think the taste varies with experiences.

My new experiences and feelings don't require wrist-slashing-heartbreaking-sorrow -music nor do they go well with ohh-I-know-this-song-let's-dance -music. I needed new kind of music to go with my new moods. One of my guildies made me listen to Blue Stahli, and I found myself liking it. I don't think I would have couple years back but now it hits hard.

Also one other friends of WoW made me listen to bunch of songs and he has totally different taste than I do, but we found "a common melody" with this song:

A song I never thought I could like. Does the same go with everything in life? I now start liking things I never thought I would? Like garlic, ewww!
